Southfields Community College: Larry Davis
During his mobilisation in Iraq, Larry coordinated funding distribution to help rebuild local communities. Without the support of his employer at Southfields Community College, he wouldn't have been able to make a lasting difference to those communities. In return, Larry applied the skills and experience gained in Iraq to his civilian job.
Larry served as a Finance Officer for the Civil Protection Agency (CPA) in Iraq. Larry and his team facilitated the set up of approximately 300-400 local enterprises. These included the setting up of cold water and juice stalls, and providing boats for fishermen. Larry and his team also helped set up a number of community centres which had a very positive impact. None of this could have happened without Southfields Community college who played a vital part, by supporting their employee, Larry.
Southfields Community College offer paid leave for Reservist training commitments because they recognise the benefits of employing a Reservist.
For instance, when asked of his time on mobilisation Larry said:
"I didn't have much accountancy experience before the mobilisation...I learnt how to combine the skills I already possessed and apply them to new situations."
This shows a high level of adaptability and the ability to apply and build on existing skill sets, which is undoubtedly beneficial within his civilian role.
