Transferable skills

The experience gained during my time in Afghanistan and training as a Reservist has given me a wealth of transferable skills including presentation delivery, team leadership and the ability to adapt my management style to new situations. Fundamentally, I've learnt how to make quick, but considered decisions which is paramount to the success in the military and is equally important in my civilian role as a consultant.

"Whether it's dealing with an Afghanistan Government Official or local soldier, the ability to treat each in an individual but respectful manner is mirrored in my civilian job where I need to relate to Senior Managers from blue chip companies on one day, and work side-by-side with a JCB Operator the next."

Employer Support

Throughout my mobilisation period, my employer at Scott Wilson Ltd was very supportive and arranged my workload to be transferred to other staff members.  The company funded a farewell party before I left and a welcome back event too.  When I was out in Afghanistan, I received regular emails from my employer and members of the team. My employer remained fully supportive, and I was able to visit the office to gradually integrate back into my routine.
