Employer Notification

Employer Notification (EN) is an automatic system whereby the Ministry of Defence (MOD) will write directly to your employer.

What is Employer Notification?

Anyone who joins the Volunteer Reserve Forces (VRF) or re-engages must give permission for the MOD to contact their employer directly. This procedure, known as Employer Notification, has been in place since 1 April 2004.

If you joined or re-engaged before 1 April 2004, you are also strongly encouraged to give your permission for the MOD to contact your employer even before you are required to do so when you next re-engage.

Reservists have always been strongly encouraged to tell their employers that they are a member of the VRF.

Why Employer Notification was introduced

EN is designed to encourage an open, honest relationship between you and your employer. This should help to minimise possible problems if you seek leave for training or in the rare event that you are called out for compulsory mobilisation.

The MOD also asks you to make your employer aware of SaBRE and the support it offers to them.

Contracts of employment and membership of the VRF

It may even be a condition of your civilian employment that you tell your employer if you have a second or part-time job (which is how VRF membership may be viewed). In such cases, you must tell your employer or you may be breaking the terms of your contract of employment.
