What is it?
Exercise Executive Stretch is a unique opportunity for business people to experience and enhance personal leadership, teamwork and communication skills - as well as offering a valuable insight into the Volunteer Reserve Forces (VRF) and the transferable skills that Reservists have developed during similar training exercises.
It's organised by the VRF and SaBRE - the campaign set up by the MOD to support employers of Reservists and encourage stronger links with them - and run by the Reservists themselves.
Events are held over a weekend on military training areas throughout the country, with each region usually hosting one event each year. (See Events in your area)
It's designed to be demanding. It's designed to be fun. But, above all, it's designed to give you an experience that will bring out your leadership skills.
A weekend of transformation
The event involves a variety of stimulating leadership and teamwork challenges, both physical and mental. These reflect very closely the training that Reservists themselves receive and give a valuable insight into what being a Reservist involves.
By the end of the weekend, you should have a real sense of achievement and personal development.
Stretching your mind
After a briefing session and basic instruction in essential skills, you'll work in teams to tackle a series of leadership challenges, planning exercises and physical activities. These will involve problem solving, lateral thinking and initiative, requiring you to call on a whole range of skills.
Stretching your body
Although the weekend is undeniably challenging, and sometimes involves working in adverse conditions to overcome obstacles, you don't need to be young or super-fit. What will really be tested is your determination, strength of character and your ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team.
Stretching your capabilities
People who've taken part in the past tell us that they have greater self-confidence, enhanced communication skills and a better understanding of leadership and teamwork. They also have a real sense of personal achievement and insight into what being a Reservist involves. These are just some of the benefits you can expect when you take part in Exercise Executive Stretch.
